Amazon.ie vs Amazon.co.uk: What Irish Shoppers Need to Know

Amazon.ie launched in March 2025. Here’s how it compares with Amazon.co.uk on prices, Prime, delivery, range and returns.

For years, Irish shoppers used Amazon.co.uk. Since Amazon.ie launched on 18 March 2025, there’s an Irish option with euro prices. Here’s what’s different, and which one to use.

The short version

  • Use Amazon.ie for most things: euro prices, no surprise customs charges, and EU consumer rights.
  • Check Amazon.co.uk if something isn’t on Amazon.ie, but watch for delivery costs, customs and returns.

Prices and currency

Amazon.ie shows prices in euro, including VAT, so what you see is what you pay (plus any delivery charge). On Amazon.co.uk you pay in sterling, so your bank may add a currency conversion fee, and the final price depends on the exchange rate.

Customs and VAT

Amazon says Amazon.ie orders come without extra customs charges. Orders from UK-based sellers can be different: since Brexit, goods coming from Great Britain may attract customs or VAT charges, which can show up at delivery.

Prime in Ireland

  • Amazon.ie has its own Prime membership: €6.99 a month or €69.90 a year, with a 30-day free trial (prices at launch; check Amazon for current pricing).
  • Benefits include free and One-Day Delivery on eligible items, Prime Day deals and Prime Video.
  • If you had UK Prime, you can switch to Irish Prime, and Amazon cancels and refunds the UK membership.

Delivery

Amazon.ie offers One-Day Delivery on millions of products. Some items are still dispatched from Amazon’s UK operations and may take longer or carry a delivery charge for non-Prime customers, so check the delivery estimate on each product before you buy.

Range

Amazon.ie has a huge range (Amazon says over 200 million products at launch), but some items that appear on Amazon.co.uk aren’t listed on the Irish site, especially from smaller UK sellers.

Returns and your rights

Buying from Amazon.ie, you get EU consumer rights, including a 14-day cooling-off period on most online purchases. Rights against UK-based sellers can be harder to enforce, and customs can complicate returns.
