A good vacuum is one of the best-value things to buy in the November sales, and there are strong deals on cordless sticks, cylinders and handhelds right now. We’ve picked well-reviewed models from Currys and Amazon.ie and sorted them by the kind of home they suit.
We haven’t tested these products ourselves. Our picks are based on independent expert reviews (linked below) and the manufacturers’ specifications. Prices change often, so each product links to today’s price.
Quick picks
- Best overall and for pet hair: Shark Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus (cordless).
- Longest run time: Bosch Unlimited 7 Dual Battery, with two swappable batteries.
- Best bagged cordless: Henry Quick Pet, with dust-free Henry Pods.
- Best for small homes and hard floors: Miele Boost CX1 (corded cylinder).
- Best for quick clean-ups: Shark WandVac handheld.
- For sealed hard floors: Shark Steam Mop S1000.
Cordless or corded?
- Cordless sticks are quick to grab and great for stairs and everyday cleaning. Check the run time and whether the battery is removable.
- Corded cylinders never run out of power and suit homes with mostly hard floors, but you need to move the plug as you go.
- Pets? Look for an anti hair wrap (anti-tangle) brush roll, or you’ll be cutting hair off the brush.
- Bag or bagless? Bagless bins are cheaper to run; bagged models are less dusty to empty, which helps allergy sufferers.
Best cordless vacuums
The Shark Stratos is our top pick: Expert Reviews called it a brilliant performer that rivals far pricier models, with superb cleaning and a single floor head for carpets and hard floors. Its anti hair wrap brush makes it great for pet owners. The bin is only average-sized.
The Bosch Unlimited 7 comes with two batteries, and Expert Reviews found it outlasted everything else it tested. Suction is weaker than the best and there’s no anti-tangle brush, so it suits bigger homes that need long, lighter cleaning.
The Henry Quick Pet is Henry’s first cordless stick. Expert Reviews called it largely a success, with good cleaning and a long run time. It uses disposable Henry Pods and long hair can wrap around the brush.
